Beginners route, very short approach! but still in a great position. Can be busy.

Approach # 5mins

From the top station go down the metal steps to the col and the start of the climb.

Route # 1h30

Go up the initial snow slopes above the Col des Grand Montets to get to the nice shoulder at the base of the W ridge. Cross the bergschrund, sometimes fragile. Choose a line up the ridge of easy mixed ground, with a few sections of rock climbing, notably a 5m, cracked wall at 3b, to arrive at a rock table. (A lot of parties stop here.) To reach the true summit, climb down a little rock wall (3b) by hanging from your arms, (easier on the return,) then follow the crest of the ridge.

Descent

By the same way

  • Nice views, especially of the Dru N face

  • Conditions, and in particular the presence of ice, can greatly change the difficulty.
