Climb: From the hamlet of the Granges (1160m), go up the gentle slopes to the foot of a steep wall, that you can climb in good condition skins (30 to 35°), or that you can avoid by following the summer trail in the forest, towards the left (advised). Traverse the clearings of Montaz completely to the east, to emerge, at the end of the forest, at the place called Commanderie.

The go diagonally towards the southeast to go up the large talweg which faces east at the altitude of 1850m, and which is lost in gentler relief. Continue completely south towards the Plan de la Mouille, pass the bump at 1987m, then to go back up to the dale until the foot of a steeper slope (2000m), which makes it possible to reach the pass of Sallestet (2111m). The follow the crest line towards northwest, pass the bump at 2172m, cross the micro reliefs to follow the end ridge as far as the summit (2300m), towards the southwest. It takes 2h30 to 3h30.

Descent: Return by the same route, it takes 1h00.

Variant: It is possible to lengthen the route by continuing towards Lac Noir from Col du Sallestet in ascending traverse to the northeast (summer trail, exposed slope, harscheisen advised in the event of hard snow). Then go completely south over a series of scoops and micro reliefs as far as the summit of the Rocher des Enclaves (2465m). It takes 1h from Col du Sallestet.

This tour is very easy and appropriate for beginners. The Lac Noir and Lac Enclaves variant is more technical and certain slopes, in particular micro reliefs, can be avalanchous.

It faces north and the constant cold of this valley encourages a slow transformation of the snowpack: this makes it possible to find powder snow persisting long after a snowfall, but the snow can also remain frozen for a long time.

Access: Albertville -Beaufort -After the town, follow the Hauteluce road, passing the hamlet of Curtillets, then continue towards Hauteluce, passing the place called “Les Traverses”. Before crossing the Dorinet, turn right for Le Joly/Saint Sauveur, follow this road until the hamlet “Les Granges”. Park along the road.

Accommodation: Gîte la Charmette in Arèches (10km) - tel : 04 73 38 18 12 . Lachat refuge behind Col des Saisies, on the Crest-Voland road (04.79.31.87 36). Gite d’étape des Pémonts in Hauteluce (04.79.38.84 56).
