Pointe de Barasson - Normal Route
This mountain is a much more attractive ski tour destination now that the “Super Bernard” ski area has closed.
Access
From the parking at the Swiss entrance to the Saint Bernard tunnel. Alternatively by skiing down from the St Bernard Hospice.
Route
Follow the road towards the St Bernard col until the bridge at Nundry(2190m) then continue on the true right bank of the river for another 500m, (usually well tracked.) Go SSE into the Combe de Barasson and easily up this to a cross which is situated just behind a large red and white communications aerial. (The pylons lead up towards the W col of Barasson.) From here go leftwards up a short slope to a more level area (alt. 2580m). Now go up the broad slope , less steep to the S, (through a narrows,) to reach the ridge at point 2850m. Follow this ridge to the summit.
Descent
By the same route.
Easy angled at the start. Faces N at the staret, NW for the final slopes. Short section at ~38°, hence S4 More awkward if there is not a good snow cover, (rocks). Alternatives are to go to the W Barasson Col
