Tête de la Sallaz - Normal Route
An easy route, ideal for beginners, with gentle slopes, both up and down.
Route From Romme, make your way to the top of the Grand Tour ski lift. From here follow the 4×4 track towards the Chalet des Vuardes. Continue up and out of the forest to the summit, climbed from the left (E) to avoid the cornice, depending on the conditions.
Descent By the same route. At around 1800m, it is also possible to go down steeper slopes, through the trees, to the top of the ski lift. A more serious descent, (AD-, S3) is down the Couloir du Sallettaz and then walk 5-10 mins back along the road to Romme.
Possibility to use the Grand Tour Ski Lift. (2€ - opens at 9h00). Late start possible due to the routes orientation. Windslab is often present just below the summit cornice, (about 1980m.) Circulating winds can form easy angled snow slopes around the Tete de la Sallaz but these can be just above the steep outcrops on the NE face. The IGN map indicates a cavern, (pothole,) on the route at 1960m. Possible to make longer tours to the summit of Pointe d’Areu, descending to Burzier, (Sallanches) or Reposoir. Much more serious.
