Spigolo Hindo Kush

Approach

Just before you enter Pontboset in the Champorcher valley, there is a turn of to the right signposted Courtil. Follow the road to Courtil where one is obliged to park the car as the road above is restricted access. Follow the tarmac road for about 30 mins to where it comes out of the trees next to a small stone building. (N 45,37,19.9 E 007,42,02.4) The cliff is clearly visible on up on the right. There is an obvious large slab with a vegetated gully on its right hand side. Spigolo Hindo Kush climbs the rib to the right of this gully. From the road follow a path for 5 mins to the foot of the cliff, and follow its base till you get to the foot of the rib. (White painted square with the letters “SP”).

Route

L# | 4a | 25m | Easily up to below the overhanging section of the rib. L# | 6a | 25m | The bolts are very close together allowing one to climb it at an easier grade. L# | 5a | 30m | L# | 5b | 25m | L# | 5a | 35m | You pass a belay point after about 15m

Descent

Lots of options. 1. Walk off to the Col de Courtil and then back down the road. 2. Abseil back down the road, may have problems with the rope. 3. Walk over to the top of the big slab and abseil back down this. (“Il Satellite”)
