Approach

From the Trient village, drive towards the Peuty hamlet and park at the end of the road. Follow the valley towards the glacier, go up several hairpin bends and head towards the “Gite de Trient” hut The barre du Charcotin icefalls are above this gite, (a café in summer). Identify the broadest icefall (on the upper wall towards the glacier.) L’Entonnoir is the icefall furthest left of this ice wall, and takes an obvious runnel, whose appearance gives the route its name, (“entonnoir” = funnel.) 1h - 1h30 depending upon snow conditions. (Skis or snow shoes strongly recommended.)

Route

L# | 60m | 65/80° Pine tree belay on the left at the foot of the funnel, (slings). L# | 60m| 85° then a snow gully, ice screw belay. L# | | To finishes possible : to the left, (more aesthetic,) 85° (2nd funnel), or to the right by a more classical icefall 70/75°, Tree belay

Descent

Abseil back down the route?

The path direct from the Col de Forclaz is strongly not recommended due to avalanche risk
