La Giettaz - Charl'haine, y a pas que d'la haine

Approach

Park at the Giettaz tennis, (on the right coming from the Col des Aravis). Cross the bridge to reach the true right bank of the Torrent des Aravis. Follow a forest track on the left for 2min, then before a chalet, turn to the right and go up the stream bed.

Route

P1: 50m, ice wall, steep at the start. Belay at a tree. P2: 50m, snow slope to reach the second step. Ice screw balay. P3: 50m, as with P1, the start is steep. Exit to the right to a tree belay.

Possible to continue up the snow slope for 150m to a third icefall, 30m at 80º, then a another step after some trees, 60m in all . (See outing of 28/01/2010)

Descent

A first abseil of 50m brings you to the foot of the 2nd ice step. From here either descend the snow slope of pitch 2 and abseil down pitch 1, or go over the shoulder of the true right bank to reach the cwm with the ice climb “Élodie, ça glisse aussi”, from where it is possible to continue walking down.
