E Face (standard ascent)

Approach

From the top of the cable car, follow the steps to the new refuge (3371m). There are 237 steps! N.B. due to all the construction work for the new cable car, a new path has been built between the top of the second leg of the old cable car and the “new” Torino hut. Access to the glacier is no longer possible along the metal stairs at the back of the hut. About a 100m before arriving at the hut take the track, (through a gate!) onto the glacier. Once on the Glacier du Géant, take the direction west. Pass under the N face of the Grand Flambeau, to reach the Col Oriental de Toule (East col).

From here climb the face with mixed passages of rock and snow.
