Details

The Bec Inférieur Rouge is a summit rarely visited due to the difficulties after the Bec de Lachat. Once on the summit one is rewarded with a great view of the Tour and Argentière glacier and their surrounding summits.

Route

From la Tour, take the path after the CAF hostel leading to the Tête du Grand Chantet shelter. Some metres after the shelter take a path on the left in line with the Bec de Lachat and keeping in its W cwm. Once the Bec de Lachat is reached, follow the crest of the W ridge. The Bec Rouge Inférieur is clearly visible and dominates the ridge. Pass a zone of “artistic cairns”, made of shaped, blades of rock, (beautiful). Continue over several little peaks to reach a little grassy col at the foot of the final ridge up to the Bec Rouge Inférieur. Here the way is more awkward and it necessary to juggle between the rocks, the crest of the ridge and grassy slopes on the SSW side (Argentière glacier). Keep an eye out for the cairns in order to avoid difficult and dangerous sections. One finally reaches the summit by a steep chamois path on the SSW side.

Descent

By the same way, (with care!)emphasized text

Needs good weather. The descent could be difficult if wet or bad visibilty. Possible to continue to the Bec Rouge Superior (and then perhaps descend partially by the Tour glacier. Need glacier gear.)
